A two-month cruise circling the Land Down Under was terminated following the fatal incident of an elderly lady who was left behind by the vessel on a distant tropical isle.

Suzanne Rees had been walking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the excursion for a break. The liner sailed away leaving her and returned after some time after the personnel became aware the passenger was unaccounted for.

A large-scale rescue mission found her person the following day.

Investigative bodies are examining the event, alongside investigators and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the shipping company said that travelers and staff on the ship were told that the rest of the journey had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and earlier technical problems".

In a statement, he added that passengers would be given a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also published an revised announcement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Master" prohibiting any further travelers from entering the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would attend the ship in the port city upon its coming back.

The vessel initially left Cairns on October 24th, and was just two days into the journey at the point of the elderly woman's demise. The remote island was the initial destination on the voyage.

Travelers on board - who typically pay substantial amounts of dollars to participate in the expedition - were transported there for a shore visit with the option of hiking or snorkeling.

The child of the deceased woman said that her family was "stunned and saddened that the liner left the island after an planned tour without my parent".

Via her announcement, she characterized her mum as an "energetic elderly person" who was a participant of a bushwalking organization.

"Based on limited facts we have been provided, it seems that there was a lapse of responsibility and common sense," she said.

She further stated that she wished the inquiry would be able to determine what "the organization should have done that might have preserved Her being".

"We understand from the investigators that it was a very hot period, and mother became unwell on the uphill trek," she explained.

"Officials suggested her to go back, without accompaniment. Then the vessel sailed away, apparently without doing a roll call.

"During some point in that process, or not long after, mum died, without company."

Company Reaction

In a statement, the Head verified that the operator was "working closely with officials to assist their examination".

He said that the firm was "extremely apologetic that this has transpired" and had provided its full support to the relatives.

Cruise Industry Practices

The liner caters for up to 120 passengers with nearly fifty crew, according to corporate data. It was specifically designed to enter isolated locations of Australia's coast and is outfitted with "tenders" - minor craft used to transport passengers on shore trips.

Occurrences such as this are uncommon, and cruise ships have protocols to record which individuals are getting on or leaving, according to travel authorities.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] aboard just isn't an choice," an authority stated.

Cruise lines take these procedures extremely carefully and have "sophisticated systems in place to stop such incidents from taking place," the expert further stated.

"This seems to be most likely a shocking - and tragic - isolated incident."
